Gundorph Albertus

Gundorph Albertus worked in Georg Jensen's silversmithy for 40 years. From 1926 - 1954, he was assistant manager and oversaw the company's production and quality assurance of the craftsmanship. From 1908 to 1911, he studied silversmithing in Munich and Paris. When he came to Denmark, he worked at the Georg Jensen silversmithy and also studied sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1915. Albertus became Jensen's brother-in-law when he married Jensen's wife Johannes' sister. In addition to supervising, he also designed jewelry, cutlery and china. In 1930 he designed the popular cutlery pattern Kaktus and in 1940 Pinje, in 1941 Mitra, which was the first stainless steel cutlery pattern. He designed cups, bowls, dishes, trays and cocktail shakers. Much of his body of work from the 1930s has very slender, mordern shapes with floral decoration. He received a gold medal at the 1925 Paris World Exhibition and a diplome d'honneur at the 1937 Paris International Exhibition.
